FIFA World Cup 2030 in Morocco
Six host cities, a record-breaking new stadium and the first World Cup shared between Africa and Europe. Here's what you need to know.
Updated 22 October 2026 · By the World to Morocco editorial team
The 2030 FIFA World Cup is co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with three centenary matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. In Morocco, matches are planned in Casablanca (Benslimane), Rabat, Tangier, Fes, Marrakech and Agadir. The tournament takes place in June and July 2030; FIFA will publish the exact match schedule closer to the event.
A World Cup on two continents
In December 2024, FIFA confirmed the joint bid of Morocco, Spain and Portugal as hosts of the 2030 World Cup — the tournament's centenary edition. It will be the first World Cup played in both Africa and Europe, and the first in North Africa. To mark 100 years since the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, three opening matches will be staged in South America before the tournament moves to the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco.
As co-hosts, Morocco, Spain and Portugal qualify automatically. With 48 teams and 104 matches, it will be one of the biggest sporting events ever held, and Morocco expects a huge rise in visitors on top of the record 19.8 million it welcomed in 2025.

How Morocco is getting ready
- High-speed rail: a new 430 km line from Kenitra to Marrakech is under construction, extending Al Boraq so that Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech are linked by high-speed trains. Testing is planned for 2029.
- Airports: a national programme announced in 2025 aims to raise airport capacity to around 80 million passengers a year by 2030, including major expansions at Casablanca Mohammed V and Marrakech Menara.
- Hotels: around 25,000 new hotel rooms are planned across roughly 700 projects, concentrated in Marrakech, Casablanca and Tangier.
- Stadiums: all six venues have been built new, rebuilt or upgraded, several of them already used for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Combining Morocco with Spain and Portugal
For fans following a team across host countries, the Strait of Gibraltar is the key link. High-speed ferries connect Tarifa with Tangier Ville in about an hour, and larger ferries run between Algeciras and Tanger Med. Frequent flights also connect Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat and Tangier with Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Málaga, Lisbon and Porto. See our three-country itinerary.
