Getting around Morocco
Africa's first high-speed train, a reliable rail network, comfortable coaches and cheap city taxis.
Updated 22 October 2026 · By the World to Morocco editorial team
The best way to travel between most host cities is by train: Al Boraq high-speed trains link Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca, and regular ONCF trains reach Fes and Marrakech. For Agadir, take a coach (CTM or Supratours) or a domestic flight. In cities, use petit taxis and trams.
Travel times between host cities
| Route | Best option | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Tangier → Rabat | Al Boraq | 1h20 |
| Tangier → Casablanca | Al Boraq | 2h10 |
| Rabat → Casablanca | Al Boraq / ONCF | 45 min – 1h |
| Casablanca → Marrakech | ONCF train | ≈2h40 |
| Rabat → Fes | ONCF train | ≈2h30 |
| Casablanca → Fes | ONCF train | ≈3h30 |
| Marrakech → Agadir | Coach / car | ≈3h |
| Casablanca → Agadir | Flight | ≈1h |
Times are for current services. The Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed line, planned for 2030, is expected to cut Tangier–Marrakech to around 2h40.
Trains (ONCF & Al Boraq)
Morocco's national railway, ONCF, runs clean, punctual and affordable trains. Al Boraq, opened in 2018, reaches up to 320 km/h between Tangier and Kenitra. Buy tickets on the ONCF website or app, or at stations; first class gives a reserved seat and is good value. During the World Cup, book as soon as tickets open.

Coaches
CTM and Supratours (ONCF's coach partner) run comfortable, air-conditioned coaches with assigned seats, reaching places trains don't: Agadir, Essaouira, Chefchaouen and the south. Book online or at their stations.
Taxis
- Petit taxis carry up to three passengers within city limits. They are colour-coded (red in Casablanca, blue in Rabat, beige in Marrakech) — insist on the meter.
- Grand taxis are shared, longer-distance taxis that leave when full; you can also hire one privately.
- Ride-hailing apps operate in major cities; check which services are currently licensed.
Car hire and driving
Morocco has a good toll-motorway network linking all host cities. Driving in medinas and big-city traffic can be stressful, so a car is most useful for the Atlas, the coast and the desert. You need your national licence (an International Driving Permit is recommended). Police speed checks are common.
Domestic flights
Royal Air Maroc and low-cost airlines connect Casablanca with Agadir, Marrakech, Tangier, Fes and other cities — useful for long hops such as Tangier to Agadir.
