Quick answer

Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium is a 68,700-seat football stadium on Avenue Hassan II, about 7 km from central Rabat. It reopened in September 2025 after a complete rebuild and hosted the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. The easiest way in is by train to Rabat Riad station, next to the stadium complex, or by petit taxi from the centre.

Rabat replaced its old multi-purpose stadium, which had an athletics track, with a football-only arena built between 2023 and 2025. The result is one of the most modern grounds in Africa, with a roof over the stands and seats close to the pitch.

It is also one of the most practical World Cup venues for visitors: the capital is compact, safe and well connected, with Al Boraq high-speed trains to Tangier and fast trains to Casablanca.

Location

The stadium stands at the heart of the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex on Avenue Hassan II, south-west of the city centre, alongside an athletics stadium, an indoor arena and an Olympic swimming pool. The Hay Riad and Agdal districts are close by; the medina and the Kasbah of the Udayas are about 7 km away.

Capacity and design

The stadium's designer, Populous, gives a capacity of 68,700; some sources list 69,500 or 67,800. Its record crowd so far is 66,525, for the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal on 18 January 2026. Designed with the Moroccan studio Orange Atelier and built by SGTM, it has a hybrid grass pitch, a roof over the stands and two giant screens.

How to get there

  • Train: Rabat Riad, a new ONCF station that opened on 15 December 2025, sits next to the Moulay Abdellah complex. During the Africa Cup of Nations, ONCF added special stops at Rabat Riad and shuttle trains between Rabat Agdal and Rabat Riad. Expect similar arrangements in 2030.
  • Taxi: petit taxis are the quickest door-to-door option from the medina, Hassan or Agdal outside rush hour. On matchdays, roads around the complex close, so be ready to walk the last part.
  • Tram: Rabat's tram network runs to Agdal; from there, take a taxi or the train shuttle.
  • Car: two official car parks hold about 5,000 cars, but traffic after big matches is heavy.

Coming from another host city? Al Boraq links Rabat with Tangier in about 1h20, and trains reach Casablanca in under an hour. See getting around Morocco.

Where to stay

Agdal and Hay Riad are the closest districts, with modern hotels, cafés and quick taxis to the stadium. Hassan and the city centre put you near the medina and Rabat Ville station, and Souissi has upmarket hotels in green surroundings. Matchday tips

  • Arrive at least two hours before kick-off; queues at security build quickly for big matches.
  • Check the ONCF app for special trains and stops at Rabat Riad on matchdays.
  • The roof shades the stands, but bring water for the walk in during afternoon games.
  • Alcohol is not sold inside the stadium.
  • After the match, walk away from the complex before looking for a taxi.

Spend a day before or after the match on Rabat's UNESCO-listed sights: the blue-and-white lanes of the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the Roman and medieval ruins of the Chellah and the relaxed medina. Our Rabat travel guide covers them all.

Its role at the 2030 World Cup

Rabat is one of Morocco's six host cities. FIFA has not published the match schedule, so we do not yet know which games the stadium will stage. Its size and Africa Cup of Nations experience make it a strong candidate for knockout matches. Compare it with the other venues in our guide to Morocco's World Cup stadiums.
